First Ever Tutorials

Some of you may not know this, but I actually have a very old second channel over on YouTube called – xMIMICKSx

I first started uploading face painting tutorials way back in 2009 and instantly fell in love, but being the perfectionist that I am, I was always disappointed with the quality of my films.  Back then I didn’t have any fancy camera equipment or studio lighting and my videos would end up dark and shadowy no matter how many bedside lamps I shone at my face.

The editing process was also a bit of a nightmare.  I would try to work on my ancient laptop but everything seemed to take 3 times longer than it should have, and eventually I got so fed up with it that I stopped making tutorials.

I had a break for almost 2 years, during which I discovered the incredible YouTube channels of Lisa Eldridge and the Pixiwoo sisters Sam & Nic . I loved everything about their videos, their clean white backgrounds, their professional lighting, their amazing websites…just everything!  I was well and truly inspired.

I decided that this was exactly the look I wanted for my films, so I saved very hard and invested in the recording equipment that I needed to help me achieve my goal.  This was also when I decided that I needed a new channel name.  I absolutely hated xMIMICKSx, it looked ugly, it was difficult to read and it didn’t look at all professional.  Unfortunately at that time you couldn’t change your name on YouTube so I had to bid my 2500 subscribers farewell and start all over again on my shiny new channel MimicksTV.

My old channel is still live if you’d like to watch any of my original videos (promise that you won’t laugh!).  I have a lovely Winter Butterfly, Kitty Cat, Skull Mask and a couple of others to choose from – http://www.youtube.com/user/xMIMICKSx

  2. You’re very welcome. I hope you enjoy it :)

  3. Just wanted to say as well that I have learned a lot from you youtube videos. I wish people would do more. There are so many of us who can not get anywhere near a teaching session due to locations. No one comes to Nova Scotia, Canada. I rely heavily on video’s and step by step. Please keep them coming. More, more, more….lol. Thank You.

  4. Haha thanks James! Yeah I bet it is really hard to find training courses where you are. Don’t worry, I’ll keep the tutorials coming. x
